In order to explore these questions a little on a practical level, we at IGG moved the 5a history class to the courtyard. In groups of 3 students each, the kids were given the task of making a fire with fire steel and tinder. They quickly realized: It takes patience and skill. The joy was all the greater when the homemade pile of wood finally burned.

Many thanks also to the indulgence of the parents when the children came home as "smoking men". Unlike in the Stone Age, we fortunately have a quick remedy for smelly clothes in the form of washing machines and washing powder. But if you want to experience history up close, you can spend an afternoon smelling like a Stone Age man.
